H.M.S. Pinafore – Tap Outfit

Seriously, the most adorable thing ever.

Seriously, the most adorable thing ever.

I work in the costume shop at Grand Canyon University, and right now, our drama department is preparing to put on H.M.S. Pinafore.  During the overture, there will be a dance number complete with 5 tap dancers dressed in that cute thing up there.  I can’t take credit for this design at all.  My amazing coworker Sarah Levinson thought it up one morning.  We simultaneously celebrated and bemoaned her idea for a British flag detailed corset can only be done in one way – by hand.  Though I only constructed one of the five corsets, I detailed four of them – something that has resulted in many needle sticks and what may be a permanent dimple on my second finger (the one I use to push the needle through the fabric).  However, I am glad to say that, by the time I was done with the last corset, my detailing time had decreased from 5 hours per corset to 3.

If you’re in the Phoenix area, you should really consider coming to GCU’s production of H.M.S. Pinafore.
